STATEMENT

Sally Dillon is a professional fiber artist specializing in quilted silk wall hangings. Her designs are based on the study of nature, particularly geology and geography. Cross-sectional maps, satellite photographs and a lifetime of close observation inspire many of her pieces.

Sally stretches the highest quality white silk over frames, then draws a resist line with wax before applying French dyes with soft watercolor brushes. The silk is then dried, steamed, washed and dry-cleaned before being assembled into unique wall hangings.

"Sightings and Collections"

Some of the imagery in this quilt comes from flotsam on my mantel, the rest from "sightings" at the seashore from Maine to Texas. Includes are a horse shoe crab, some tublarian hydroids, colander kelp, a yellow fin tuna and northern red anemone, a Portuguese man of war, fire worm, and brittle star.
