STATEMENT

Born in Russia and educated as biologist at Saint-Petersburg University, she devoted last 20 years to fiber art. Her passion of fiber helped her to find the right media and use a needle as a versatile instrument for expression and interpretation of her soul in art. Her goal is to reflect the beauty of our world and share her love to nature with people. She found that combined technique of hand and machine embroidery perfectly corresponds to represent endless variety of nature, because it allows recreate the nature not just in color but also in all manifestation of its forms and textures.

Developing a design she attempts to connect modern and traditional multicultural elements of hand and machine embroidery, and to create the unique intricately stitched cloth. Drawing with threads is improvisation on the plain painted background when hooped fabric is moved freely by hand under machine needle, which serves as a pencil. Adding of hand stitches emphasizes the impression of texture. Or brand new cloth is created with plenty of stitches with incorporated strips of hand dyed fabric, threads, ribbons, what gives a particular rich textural and saturated colored effect. Surface becomes truly three-dimensional with knots, ridges, bumps, and holes. Different kind of over-stitched threads like a shiny and smooth rayon, fluffy wool and matt cotton capture the light and reflect it with constantly changeable shades, what adds a glossy iridescent appearance and animated depth to the design.

Natalia works in USA as full time artist since 1993. You can see her pictures on the art and craft shows and in the galleries though the country. Her works was published in the books and magazines.
