The
inspiration for my artwork comes from the beauty and tranquility
found in nature. When I discovered basket weaving several
years ago, I also discovered my soul's calling. Basket weaving
became an immediate passion. I have always felt a reverence
for our Mother Earth, and basketry allows those feelings
to find artistic expression. Whenever I gather, weave and
transform fallen plant materials I am brought closer to nature
and transported to a place of inner quiet and reflection.
Many ancient cultures considered the art of basketry to be
sacred, and it does indeed feel like a spiritual activity.
Nadine
Spier, is an award-winning fiber artist. Her baskets and
fiber sculptures are exhibited internationally in museums
and fine art galleries. Nadine is the recipient of many high
honors including the Handweavers Guild of America Award of
Excellence, and a $500 merit award from Art Calendar Magazine,
and numerous First Places and Best of Show. She lectures
and teaches at universities, art schools and professional
weaving conferences. Prominent jurists, including the Directors
of the Smithsonian and the American Craft Museum in New York,
have selected her work for exhibition.
