Mija is a family business based in the mountains of western North
Carolina and is founded on a philosophy of using the Earth's resources
conscientiously. Libby and Jim Mijanovich blend art with their
environmental convictions, by recycling vintage cotton clothing
to create intricate and involved quilted fabric art. Their machine
washable, easy to care for heirlooms add texture to any environment
and beg to be touched.
Libby and Jim's colloborative process begins by carefully combining
the color and patterns of vintage clothing, leading to one-of-a-kind
pieces that are alive with depth, motion, and the illusion of
light. Each piece is intricately quilted with metallic threads
in patterns to accentuate and complement its individual character,
then is named, dated and signed using a shirt pocket for a label.
As a final touch, the pieces are hung in original elegant walnut
shadowbox frames, creating a stunning focus for home or business.
