STATEMENT

Kathy Cooper discovered a love for painting when she made a rug for her kitchen. Today she is a nationally recognized artist, producing original hand-painted floorcloths. She is the author of two best-selling books on this popular decorating trend, The Complete Book of Floorcloths and The Weekend Crafter: Painting Floorcloths.

"Floorcloths", Cooper says, "are paintings crafted into rugs - a good marriage of art and craft. Cooper's particular paintings are saturated with rich, wonderful colors. "I am a colorist. My designs focus on the interaction of the colors. My images come from my personal experiences - the garden, my children and all of the visual stimulation around me. I enjoy the response of my viewers when they are inspired by the colors I combine, when they respond to the energy the color gives.

Each of Cooper's pieces is individually handcrafted into a rug using canvas, acrylic paints and sealants. While the materials used to construct the floorcloth are basic, the result is quite durable. A well-constructed floorcloth will provide years of pleasure and hold up to substantial use. Each painting is signed and dated.

"One of the great pleasures of making rugs", Cooper says, "is the opportunity to work with clients. I have a scrapbook of photos and letters they send back telling me how pleased they are with their new floorcloth.
