I am a textile artist of wall pieces. My weaving has been streamlined
to the point where image and material harmoniously join in abstract
clarity. Dynamic, contrasting colors help create depth and evoke
emotion. I weave together fine cotton or linen threads in a dense
and flat-textured, multi-block double-weave structure. With the
use of analogous and complementary colors, I am able to create
the illusion of movement and volume. The cloth has a sleek Modernist
aesthetic. The hand woven pieces are appliquéd to a stretched
linen canvas frame for ease in hanging on the wall.
I have studied weaving and textile design in Joensuu, Finland,
(1977), and at the Banff Center in Banff, Alberta Canada, (1980).
I received a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology¹s
School for American Craftsmen, (1979), and an MFA from Indiana
University in Bloomington, Indiana, (1984). Currently, I am the
chairman of the art department of Cape Cod Academy, (a K thru
12 private school), in Osterville, Massachusetts.
