STATEMENT

Carolyn Glazener are partners in a collective of textile artists in the center city arts district of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The talents of this group, who share studio space and management of a fine craft gallery, are as varied as the fiber art available. Collaborative ventures have grown out of this partnership at Fiber Company. Departing from Jane’s line of art clothing and Carolyn’s emphasis on throws and pillows, they work together to create site specific wall installations, which draw from their history of producing woven fabric.

Their Twice Woven series features handwoven narrow strips that are interlaced together. Movement in these designs is created using gradations of color and texture. Using handpainted and stenciled canvas as either the horizontal or vertical elements can also create interest. The canvas is cut into strips; raw edges are finished and interlaced counter to the woven strips.

The Wrapped Series features varied lengths of flexible core material covered with yarn in a myriad of colors, styles, and textures. The finished cords are mounted on one or a series of ridged frameworks covered in handwoven and/or commercially woven fabrics. The cords may be coiled, intertwined, or merely aligned across the surface of the mounted fabric.
