The Fiber Artists' Collective will be conducting
educational outreach and exhibition events in the coming months.
These opportunities will spotlight the work of our members and
underscore the importance of fiber art to design professionals
and the general public.
The Fiber Art Center
in Amherst, Massachusetts will host "Fiber Feast" an
exhibit of Fiber Artists' Collective works, May 5 - July 2, 2005.
This group show will highlight the various techniques and styles
contemporary fiber art done by members of the Fiber Artists' Collective,
an organization of professional fiber artists creating fiber
art for residential, office and public settings. An opening reception
will take place on Thursday, May 5, 5 - 8 pm. Please join us!

The Fine Arts Center at Salem College in Winston-Salem,
NC will host an exhibit of Fiber Artists' Collective work in 2005.
This will be an opportunity for members to demonstrate the breadth
and depth of fiber as an art form. The show will run January through
March and there will be a reception for the artists.
The American
Society of Interior Design is sponsoring a daylong
symposium in Boston on May 25, 2004. The Fiber Artists' Collective
will have a booth at this event called the Design Source New England
Show. There will be a slide presentation of the work of our members,
postcards that are available to the participants and information
about our organization. Patricia Burling and Joyce Barker-Schwartz
will be the very able representatives for our group.

There will be an exhibit of the work of many
Fiber Artists' Collective members at the Lincoln Center in Fort
Collins, CO from May 26th through June 30th. Lincoln Center is
a city owned performing and visual art center. This exhibit will
coincide with the beginning of the Handweavers Guild of America
Convergence in Denver, CO. There will be a regional emphasis on
fiber art and work of the Collective's members will be featured
in one of their three spectacular gallery spaces.
The Fiber Artists' Collective will have a show "New
Fiber from the Fiber Artists' Collective" at Gallery
323 at Rubin's, 323 East Wilson Street in Madison, Wisconsin from
November 15 through December 15, 2002.

Barker Schwartz of the Fiber Artists' Collective will give
a walking tour discussing decorative fiber at the Philadelphia
Furniture And Furnishings Show on April 19th and 20th from 2-3p.m.
The tour will feature members of the Fiber Artists' Collective,
an organization that was founded in 1996 to increase awareness
of the many aspects of decorative fiber.
Some of the members that will be highlighted are Pamela
Hill's geometric quilts, Claudia Mills custom made rag rugs,
Joanne Williams mixed media wallpieces and the colorful art quilts
of Ann Brauer.

Barker-Schwartz are co-founders of The Fiber Artists' Collective
and are currently serving on the steering committee.
Patricia
Burling has been a weaver of warp-face rugs for more than
twenty years. She is also, the co-vice president of The Society
Of Connecticut Crafts.
Joyce
Barker Schwartz designs and produces handpainted woven canvas
rugs and has been involved in the textile area for the last fifteen
years.
The Philadelphia Furniture And Furnishings Show will be held
April 19th-21st at The Pennsylvania Convention Center conveniently
located in downtown Philadelphia.
The Fiber Artists' Collective, a group of nationally
known artists working in the field of decorative fibers, will
showcase members' art in an exhibition at the Sawtooth
Center in Winston-Salem, NC. The exhibition dates for "Fiber
Arts - A National View" are September 13th through October 13th,
2001. Fiber Company and the Arts
Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County are sponsors of
the exhibition.
Fiber Artists' Collective was formed in 1996
to promote a commitment to excellence in the medium; high standards
of honesty in their professional life; ongoing educational programs
about fiber and art; and to encourage an open handed generosity
toward others in the field of decorative fibers. In a world full
of options these artist have chosen to work with fiber. Dyeing,
twining, stitching, weaving papermaking, painting - in dozens
of ways over thousands of hours, they transform organic material
into functional and decorative artworks. It is this passion for
individual self-expression that makes a craftsperson an artist.
